What Do You Need To Enter The United States By Land?

Canadian and American citizens do not require a passport or visa to enter the United States directly from Canada by land.

Canadians and Americans can still enter the United States by providing proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo identification (e.g. driver’s license).


What You Need To Enter The United States By Air?

For travel to the United States by air and sea, the generally available options are

After January 23, 2007 it will be mandatory to have valid Passport if you are arriving by air or sea only.
A Canadian passport is required when arriving in the United States from outside the western hemisphere.

Canadian and American citizens traveling to Canada by land, air or sea do not require a valid passport.
You will be required to provide proof of citizenship, such as birth certificate and government-issued photo identification (e.g. driver’s license).
